Researches scanned the brains of children
(from 9 to 17 years old) and found out that the children who has suffered
stress or trauma had changed in size and volume a part of the brain, called
insula.
The
insula, the part of the brain linked to the emotions is smaller in girls who
had suffered trauma and larger than the usual for boys who had suffered the
same.
This
could explain why girls are more likely than boys to develop post traumatic
stress disorder.
So,
very stressful events affect the brains of girls and boys in different ways.
